ENERGY

Cover libro energia The shortage of energy sources, geopolitical frictions, the security of energy supply and possible risks of climate changes are pushing, in Italy, towards a rekindling of interest in energy and, in particular, in nuclear production and renewable sources.

A key factor to tackle the energy challenge and ensure a sustainable and lasting development is technological innovation. In this context physics is destined to play a more and more important role, since most of the modern energy technologies and their developments are largely dependent upon physics discoveries and results.

SIF, partly in answer to an invitation from the European Physical Society (EPS), has launched since 2007 actions to promote the scientific approach in the national debate on energy problems, to stress the physics potential for the development of the technologies of energy production, conversion, transmission and saving and the need for more research and development programs to unfold it.
